Express Yourself: Balancing professional pursuits and authentic self-expression
Often times, students and young professionals are given advice that is seemingly in conflict. On one hand, they are told it is important to be their authentic selves. On another, they are told that it is important to be professional at all times and watch what they say, wear, and do. What is considered “professional” can vary by industry. This can be a tricky challenge to navigate, especially for LGBTQ+ students.
For Start Proud Vancouver’s first event at UBC Sauder School of Business, we will be exploring how to empower yourself in the transition from school to work by providing advice, answering your questions, and providing tips on how young, queer (and allied!) professionals can balance both professional pursuits and authentic self-expression. Generously sponsored by TD Bank, students and professionals in attendance can expect to hear an engaging keynote talk from TD’s Kelly Lam, followed by a “fireside chat” with representatives from Sauder, Peau de Loup, Joey Dimz Bespoke Tailors and another to be announced soon.
